Fried mozzarella sticks are fast becoming a favourite snack even for a lot of non-Italians.

Once you have made these at home you will probably never want to buy the store made ones ever again.

Some dieters even call it a dieter’s fried food because it’s full of good protein, is easy to prepare and goes well with any dip, diet dip or not.

It’s also a great party food idea because you can do the initial preparation a few days before the party, freeze it up and then simply fry prior to serving.

Bear in mind though, even though mozzarella sticks are an excellent source of dietary protein, rich in calcium and phosphorous and very moreish, because they are a fried food you shouldn’t eat them in excess.

Note: the nutritional guide refers to one individual portion size which is 3 sticks.

Ok Let’s Go Fry Up Some Delicious Gooey Mozzarella Sticks!

    Steps

    1
    Done

Get together all the ingredients you’ll need to make the fried mozzarella sticks.

    2
    Done

Cut up the mozzarella block into finger size pieces and season the flour with salt and pepper. Seasoning the flour with the salt and pepper adds a layer of flavour and makes your mozzarella sticks just that little bit extra special!

    3
    Done

Roll the mozzarella pieces in the flour, making sure the pieces are well covered. Shake off extra flour.

    4
    Done

Beat the egg and season it with salt and pepper. Do the same for the breadcrumbs. Now dip the floured mozzarella pieces in the egg and then coat with breadcrumbs.

    5
    Done

Do the same for all the mozzarella pieces. At this stage, you can wrap this in plastic wrap and freeze for up to a month if you are planning on having it later.

    6
    Done

Or, fry them up in oil until golden brown. Just make sure the oil is well heated (375 degrees F) and to only fry a few sticks at a time.

    7
    Done

Place in paper towel to soak up the excess oil and serve with your favourite dipping sauce recipe! And enjoy!
